I was looking for definitve answers on how to connect NPN and PNP devices, both in put and output. You define the NPN and PNP thing well, but could you extend to say which is Sinking and Sourcing. Many of the specs we see either say sinking/sourcing, or NPN/PNP. It would be nice to get all this clarified.

I wanted to let you know that for the Computer Architecture project I'm doing on PLCs your site was the single most helplful place I've ever found. Also, as a correction, on the Number Systems page of the tutorial under the octal heading you list the binary number 1111 1111 as equaling 257 Dec. It in fact equals 511. 0111 1111 = 255, 0011 1111 = 127 etc.

Dear Mr Melore (Phil?): I´m an Electronics Engineer and my first pro experience was in digital systems developement. Myb career has given a hard turn now that a good oportunity have apear in the Automation field. I have always liked this field and in my first experince I had to learn by myself to build mimics and implement anSCADA system. But my experience was limited to the high level side (the PC side of the rs232 and LAN ports). Now I have to do more than that and as you may know in College they teach you Advanced Electromagntics but don´t teach you the simple things, you have to learn them by yourself. I was looking for an answer because I had few contact with ladder diagrams and all that stuff because usually I had another guy doing those things. Then I found your site and your tutorial. Do you want to know what I think about it? Simple, useful, quick, great!!! It teaches only what you need to start flying by yourself. I passed the tutorial in a couple of sessions and now I feel confident to grab the box, take the manual and rock and roll !!! Thank you very much Mr Melore, it is wonderful to know that in this dreadful world in wich we live, there are still men willing to spend a little while making it easier for their fellow humans!!! Maybe you think that I´m just too esthusiastic about it, but you know that many engineers are also a little idealistic and I really think that if you took so much time making this tutorial, at least I can take a few minutes thanking it to you. Finest Regards Tobe

FINNALY! I've found a place to help me take the steps to get out from behind a wrench and into some nice clothes! I've been a production machine mechanic for over 15 years and I just quit my job of 8 years at a private beverage company. I've had alot of experience with AB PLC's, replacing and troubleshooting i/o cards and devices. I've dabbled in changing timers and counters under the guidence of a plant engineer but never really wrote anything. I wanna start "DOINING IT". I believe the demand for PLC tech's and programmers is high and I want a change in my career. I got my start with Union Carbide and First Brands Corp. then moved on to a local beverage company. I believe I can make this change from wrench to PLC tech / programmer and your gonna help me do it! Thanks. A real fantastic website.

A wonderful site. Very Talosian !!!! Talos was the first man made automated robot in ancient GREECE 5000 years ago. Talos was designed by Hephaestus, who gave the robot to King Minos. Hephaestus' robot guarded Crete by walking around the perimeter of the island three times a day and throwing rocks and other debris at ships so that they would not land on the island.

Phil, it's a work of sharing and geeky goodness. Thanks for running this site ! Now I have to block it from my browser so I can get some work done....I prefer reading PLCS.NET to answering my phone now.
