"IEC 1131-3"
I am looking for information on which programming software for PLC's (any major manufacturer) is IEC 1131-3 compliant. What are your viewpoints on this standard and is the US Market going to support the IEC.

The US manufacturers will only support IEC 1131 if users drag them kicking and screaming to it. At this point I think Modicon and GE support the standard, but that doesn't mean you can program in one and download to the other. The interfaces still vary, and the compliers, comm links, and addressing definitely vary. IEC 1131 is, in my opinion, one of those wonderful theoretical concepts that have limited real world advantages, and will probably be the next hot thing forever, without actually making a huge difference in day to day system programming - kind of like the field bus wars. If there is going to be a universal PLC it will have to come out of the Linux guys working on the open PLC. I wish them luck.

We've had several threads that discussed IEC programming and manufacturers. Try searching "IEC and languages" over the past year.
