We have recently upgraded/replaced our workshop pc (from a pentium 133Mhz & 32Mb Ram to a pentium 3 667Mhz & 128Mb Ram) and transferred the ISA slot 1784-Kt card from the old pc to the new one and it is not working.

We ran into a similar problem, and your aside provides a hint that you have the same one. We put a KT card into a new PC that didn't have a "real" ISA slot, but a daughter board off of a PCI slot. That doesn't work. We tried everything you did, even confirming that some ISA cards (like an old ethernet card we had laying around) work in that ISA slot, but not the KT.

Ensure that in the BIOS on the new motherboard that the IRQ you are using is set in the PCI PNP area of the bios. You may need to specify the slot uses a specific IRQ, or change the IRQ to legacy instead of auto / pnp, etc. What make is the bios?

Also, verify that you have the 1784-KT Series B (1784-KT/B). Allen-Bradley came out with the series B version of that card primarily because the series A was having difficulties with faster computers (Intel 486 at the time).

This is a common problem. You might want to give the factory tech support a call at 440-646-6800.

This is why we now use the 5/05s instead of other processors. Sure, the cpu is more expensive, but a nic is a whole lot cheaper than a KTX or even a knock off, so it actually costs less to use ethernet.

Thanks to all that replied. I finally contacted Rockwell in Oz (where i am) & confirmed that this is a common problem & only solution is to upgrade to the PKTX card. (Something to do with the bus speeds of the newer motherboards)
